Default Safety catch

Well as many know, the safety catch has 2 failure modes,

The spring slowly takes a new position with use.

Many have made it and used an improper bending radius, it can flat out break when needed.

By my count i believe 5 have died, all needlessly.

I looked at all the regular suspects that make parts for the canards and no one makes one.

I am going to. My buddy is a certified welder, we will make batches of 6 at a time and the price will be set at the cost of materials, his time at 25.00 an hour and shipping, plus .01 for me.

it will be made to replace the cozy plans model, drilled or undrilled as you wish in case you wish to match drill to your installation.

I'll use weld stop 304 SS hinge, a real spring and a length of SS. riveted and welded to the hinge.

well, time to eat my words again, sort of. When i went lookin for a spring for the safety catch i am makin found two types, and one type was stainless steel.

I think, from memory, one alloy was 302 and one was 316. heh heh heh. but, remember, these springs are from a spring manufacturer and have been properly fabricated and heat treated.

Still struggling trying to find the proper spring, but that will happen soon

Well, progress on the catch, found properly made SS springs. Yes I learned something new, it is possible to make a spring out of SS. I don't know how to do it but i imagine it requires a proper alloy and proper heat treating.

I bought 7, I have all the rest of the materials, when the springs come in, it will be quick order to complete one and a sample will be made and tested.
